For many
ranchers, supplementprograms
tend to be
something of a mystery.
Supplements can mean no
more than plain salt blocks to
some, while others may routinely
add minerals like Calcium,
Phosphorus, Magnesium and
Potassium to their program. Today’s
beef producers are often willing to
look farther and try more complex
supplementation.
Keith Hansen, of Nutrition Service
Associates, out of Hereford, Texas has been
in the cattle nutrition business since the early
seventies and knows that there are a lot of factors
in choosing the right program, especially when it
comes to maximizing conception rates.

Years ago it was survival
of the fittest out on
the Western Ranges for
a lot of cowherds. The
cows might have needed
minerals, but unless
they got ‘em from licking
salty clay or eating
dirt, they simply missed
out. All that’s changed
now that science has
figured out what it is
those cows have been
trying to tell us. If she’s
going to breed back and
drop a healthy calf
when the time is right,
she’s gonna need some
supplementation. Don’t
make her come after
you to find it!
